History

“Ban Chang Nak" (which means a house with a lot of elephants) is a place with a collection of works of Sala woodcraftsmen (Lanna skilled craftsmen) in Chiang Mai with outstanding elephant carving patterns. This place was established by a craftsman named Phet Wiriya who persuaded his friends with a great carving skill and passion on the art of Lanna wood carving to create a new elephant carving style with a focus on the realistic patterns and a variety of gestures. In 1988, Uncle Prayoon Chanyawong, a famous Thairath newspaper columnist at that time visited the place and named it “Ban Chang Nak”.
