According to the history, Wat Phra Borommathat is on the west bank of the Ping River. Originally, this temple was the old Tak Town before relocating the town to Rahaeng Subdistrict which is the current Tak Town. It is about 30 kilometers away in the south and has long history since Phra Nang Chammathewi went on a boat ride to Meuang Lamphun and stopped by to relax in this area. Her Majesty found out that it was a deserted town and ordered it to be restored until it becomes Meuang Tak Community. Wat Phra Borommathat also appears on the stone inscription of Pho Khun Ramkhamhaeng who won the elephant duel against the ruler of Meaung Chot on the hill about 500 meters from Phra Borommathat.
