History
The temple was constructed in 1108 (B.E. 1651) and is located in the center of Lamphun city surrounded by the four streets. An interesting mark is a refined Sriwichai-style bricklayer arch where people pass through to reach the temple. In front of the arch, there is a pair of huge lion standing on a one-meter high basement. This statue was built in the reign of Athittayaratch, when he offered a palace to be used as a vihara. Behind the arch, there is a grand vihara called Wihan Luang, which surrounded by the cloister and balcony in the front and at the back. This vihara was built to replace the former one that was destroyed by the storm in 1923 (B.E. 2466).
